  • Insect bites (malaria, dengue fever, Zika)
  • Poor personal hygiene
  • Sun exposure and heat

Malaria Prevention

If you are travelling to a malaria-risk area, your GP will prescribe the appropriate antimalarial medication based on your destination, the time of year, and your personal health history. It is important to start, take correctly, and complete the full course as prescribed.

Insect repellent containing DEET and protective clothing — especially at dawn and dusk — are also essential in malaria-risk regions. Bed nets treated with insecticide are strongly recommended when sleeping in risk areas.
