Adolescence is a time of significant physical and emotional change. We provide a confidential, supportive environment where young people can discuss any health concern openly and without judgement. Our GPs have experience working with teenagers and understand the unique challenges of this life stage.

Confidentiality

We take confidentiality seriously for all our patients, especially teenagers. Young people can speak with their GP in private, and parents or guardians are welcome to share background information before waiting outside — this allows teens to develop their own relationship with their GP and to feel comfortable discussing sensitive topics.

All consultations with our GPs are confidential. If you are under 18, you can attend on your own or with a parent or guardian — the choice is yours.

Common Issues We Help With

  • Mental health — anxiety and depression are common in teenagers and are very treatable
  • Skin conditions — acne and other dermatological concerns
  • Weight and body image — including eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia
  • Sexual health — confidential STI screening and advice
  • Contraception — all options are available confidentially
  • Stress, bullying, and family difficulties
  • Substance use concerns
  • Sleep problems and fatigue

Mental Wellbeing in Adolescence

Adolescence is a crucial period for building the social and emotional habits that support mental wellbeing throughout life — including healthy sleep patterns, physical activity, and coping strategies. Poor mental health during the teenage years can have lasting effects, but early support makes a significant difference.

If you or your teenager is struggling, please don't hesitate to get in touch. We can discuss a wide range of support options including talking therapies, lifestyle interventions, and, where appropriate, medication.

For Parents

Teenagers are developing their independence, which can sometimes be challenging for families. If you are concerned about your child, speaking with your GP can help you understand the most appropriate approach and available supports. We are here to support the whole family.
