We offer comprehensive family planning services and participate in the HSE Maternity and Infant Care Scheme, which provides free antenatal care to expecting mothers. Whether you are planning a pregnancy, currently pregnant, or seeking advice on contraception, our experienced GPs are here to support you.

Contraception

We provide the full range of contraceptive options and our GPs are experienced in fitting long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs). Available options include:

  • Combined pill and progesterone-only pill
  • Contraceptive patch and ring
  • Implant (Nexplanon)
  • Hormonal coil (IUS / Mirena)
  • Copper coil (IUD)
  • Contraceptive injection
  • Emergency contraception

Free contraception is available for women aged 17–35 under the HSE National Free Contraception Scheme. You do not need a medical card to access this service.

Antenatal Care (Maternity & Infant Care Scheme)

If you are pregnant, contact us as soon as possible to start your antenatal care. We will confirm your pregnancy, refer you to your chosen maternity hospital, and register you for the Scheme. The Scheme covers:

  • Regular GP antenatal visits throughout pregnancy
  • First pregnancies: 6 scheduled GP examinations
  • Subsequent pregnancies: 7 scheduled GP examinations
  • Up to 5 additional GP visits for pregnancy-related illness
  • Postnatal check for baby at 2 weeks
  • Joint 6-week check for mother and baby
  • All inpatient and outpatient hospital maternity services free of charge

Vaccines During Pregnancy

Three vaccines are recommended during pregnancy to protect you and your newborn:

  • Whooping cough (weeks 16–36) — protects your newborn before they can be vaccinated
  • Flu vaccine — can be given at any point during pregnancy
  • COVID-19 vaccine — recommended for all pregnant women

All three vaccines are free with a medical card or GP visit card.

Pre-conception & Fertility

If you are trying to conceive and experiencing difficulties, we can arrange initial investigations including blood tests, hormone profiles, and referral for semen analysis or specialist review. Our GPs will provide guidance and support throughout this process.

Postnatal Depression

Postnatal depression affects 10–15% of women in the first year after birth and can develop gradually over weeks or months. If you are experiencing low mood, anxiety, or difficulty coping after having a baby, please don't hesitate to speak with your GP — effective support and treatment is available.
